03/23/2004 - Wow, it's certainly been awhile. Since my last update, I have not had a lot of time to research, however
I have learned the parentage of Salem Corwin. I received a copy of his death certificate from the Brookhaven Town Clerk's
Office, and it notes his father as Samuel Corwin, and his mother as Kezia Youngs (certificate reads Keria, but no such name
exists. It had to be Kezia). See Death Certificate <-- THIS WAS AN ERROR BY THE BROOKHAVEN TOWN CLERKS OFFICE, INCORRECT INFORMATION! UPDATE COMING SOON!
12/04/2002: Last Update Prior to 2004 ~
Through the generousity of someone visiting the Corwin Message Board at Ancestry.com, I received information that Salem
Corwin is in fact in the Corwin genealogy book! I visited the local Genealogy library here in town, and low and behold, there
he was. Unfortunetly, however, no parentage was listed, so we continue our hunt to find them.
I have just placed all the Corwins found in the 1820 & 1830 census records in Suffolk County here, so feel free
to browse them! Hopefully it proves to be a useful catalog of information for some of you out there! Good luck in your searches!
Original Introduction:
I still have quite a bit to learn about this branch of my family. It has been difficult to research due to the lack of vital
statistics in New York before 1890. Prior to that, the State of New York did not require births, marriages, or deaths to be
recorded. The only records kept where those by the families themselves, if they kept them at all. I have learned
however, that Corwin is a well-known surname in Suffolk County, L.I. I was able to locate an original copy of the Corwin Family
book at the CT State Library, but there is no mention of George Edward Corwin, or his father Henry. The Corwin genealogy recorded
in that book seemed to have ended just where their names might have appeared. The gap between that time (early 1800's) and
1890 is where I am presently stuck. I have no way of making a connection. At least at this time anyway.
Most of the information you will find here is that of George Edward Corwin, born in Bellport on January 1, 1879. He went on
to become a well-known veterinarian, and held many positions through out his life. To the left you will find links to newspaper
articles, census images, etc.
