George Edward Corwin was my mother's mother's father. He was born in Bellport, Long Island (Suffolk County) on January 1,
1879. His parents were Henry Edward Corwin & Mary Bayles, both born in Bellport. George would eventually marry Laura Garvin,
of Morristown, NY (St. Lawrence County). Together they would have four children. My grandmother, Laura Elizabeth Corwin, was
their last child. She was born in 1915, the same year the family moved to Hartford from North Canaan.
The picture
to the right is taken from the Hartford Phone Book, otherwise known as "The Book of Names", 1973-1974. Back then,
a man by the name of William J. Prendergast, a well-known Connecticut feature writer & columnist, was asked to add miniature
bio's through out the phone books featuring famous & interesting CT people.
